Culebra Remembered

The Commander Benjamín Pérez Vega Collection

Portrait of Commander Benjamín Pérez Vega
Commander Benjamín Pérez Vega — culebrense author and historian.

Commander Benjamín Pérez Vega is one of the essential voices for understanding and preserving the history of Culebra. An author, historian and deep connoisseur of our culebrense history, he has devoted much of his life to documenting, telling and passing on the experiences, struggles, figures and events that have shaped our island.

His written work stands as an important testimony to Culebra’s memory. He is the author of several books about our history, among them Culebra: Isla del Pasaje, Los misterios de Playa Flamenco, La vuelta a Culebra en 40 días and El retorno de un soldado extraviado, among other publications.

This collection brings together photographs shared by Commander Benjamín Pérez Vega that allow us to come closer, through images, to different moments, people and places that are part of Culebra’s historic memory.
